Dnepr, or Dnipro, is a model of heavy motorcycles produced in Kiev, Ukraine, since 1977.

Motorcycles have been produced in Kiev since 1946 at the Kiev Motorcycle Plant (Kyivs’kyi Mototsikletnyi Zavod, KMZ). The basic design for all Dnepr motorcycles, and their civilian cousin the Ural, is taken from the WWII German BMW motorcycle R-71, which the Soviet Union captured and replicated without any charts or documentation. The Dnepr is famous for its off-road capability.

Armed services models equipped with sidecars have two wheel drive and as much as ten inches of ground clearance. Known to overheat in non-siberian weather conditions, many people add on larger oil pans, up to one gallon.

The engine is a standard German boxer twin 650cc, just like its German grandfather. Modern models are sold with engines ranging from the factory standard 650 to 750 and 800cc. Some models have been spotted sporting 1000 and 1500cc Hatz diesel engines.
