Mod One: K-68 Carburetors

The original carburetors were used and were in great need of slide replacement and a complete rebuild. I made the decision to upgrade to the new carbs. The decisions was based on both the cost to rebuild and the desire to upgrade to a more reliable product.

The carbs were easy to install, bolting straight onto the cylinders. The throttle cables were attached and the slides were adjusted so that they were equal on both side. The fuel mixture and throttle screws were adjusted to produce a smooth idling engine. One additional adjustment was to move the need up to the highest setting. This was accomplished by removing the needle assembly an adjusting it. There are three adjustments for the needle.

I have since turned the idle down a ¼ of a turn.

Mod Two: Electronic Ignition

Mod Three: Deeper Oil Pan

One of the two suggestions that I received when I first bought the bike was to upgrade to a deeper oil pan. This is even more so if you are living in cities were there is a significant amount of stop and go traffic. These bikes are best suited for the cold climate of the Ukraine. Increasing the oil capacity by adding a large oil pan or sump should keep your bike cooler and lengthen it life.

As with any purchase for this bike I go straight to Ebay. Dnepr’s OIL is what I search on a there are a number of Dnepr’s oil related products that will be returned. Most of the time they are called sumps but this may vary. You want to pay close attention to the specifications for the oil pan. If you own a Dnepr’s 11 or Dnepr’s 16 you want the correct oil pan. If the add only says Dnepr’s you must look specifically at the items. There are some models of Dnepr’s that use a different oil pan. Sumps for Ural’s wont work either. If you look at the diagram below you will see the correct bolt pattern. There are two bolts on the plug side and one bolt in the front.

This is the correct oil sump for the Dnepr 11 and Dnepr 16

This oil sump should fit the following models according to the seller but not the Dnepr 11 and Dnepr 16
